M. Soccer. Venter Named Preseason All-American By College Soccer News

July 16, 2013

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico senior defender Kyle Venter has been named a Preseason All-American by College Soccer News. Venter, a two-time All-American, was named to the First Team All-America by the national soccer media outlet. He was one of four defenders on the first team and one of two Conference USA players named to the all-America teams.

The award is not the first preseason accolade for Venter. He was named one of the top ten college defenders for 2013 by TopDrawerSoccer back in the spring.

In his three seasons on the pitch for Coach Fishbein and the Lobos, the center defender has been a fixture for New Mexico. He's amassed 63 starts, 5,824 minutes played, seven goals and 13 assists. The Cherry & Silver have recorded over 30 shutouts with Venter as a member of the backline.

The Colorado native was a College Soccer News Third Team All-American in 2011 and 2012. If he were to pick up All-America honors in 2013, he would be the first three-time All-American in the program's rich history.

Venter and the rest of the Lobos will open the 2013 season with a home exhibition versus Grand Canyon on Saturday, August 17 at 7 p.m.
