The Park University Players will present a production of William Inge's "Picnic" on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27, and Friday through Sunday, Nov. 2-4, in the Jenkin and Barbara David Theater inside Alumni Hall on the University's Parkville Campus. The curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. for all dates except for Sunday, Nov. 4, which begins at 2 p.m.

"

Picnic" takes place on Labor Day weekend in the Kansas backyards of two middle-aged widows. In one house lives Flo Owens with her two daughters, Madge and Millie, and a boarder spinster school teacher, Rosemary Sydney. In the other house lives Helen Potts with her elderly, invalid mother. A drifter, Hal Carter, appears and is an ex-college fraternity brother of Alan Seymour, who is currently dating Madge. Madge is bored with the title of hometown beauty with no brains and the attraction between her and Hal is almost instantaneous, but Hal is set up as Millie?s date for the picnic. The play is fraught with pent-up frustrations in each character?s life. Each wants something better, and for the most part, that better is somewhere besides a small Kansas town.

The play, which was the 1953 winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the Critics Circle Award, is directed by Andrea Southard, Ph.D., instructor of theatre. The cast includes Park students, high school students and community members.

Primary characters include:
???? ??Emily Frame, junior business administration/marketing major from Platte City, Mo. (attended Pleasant Ridge High School, Easton, Kan.)?-- "Madge Owens"
???? ??Loren Green, freshman social psychology major from Kansas City, Mo.?-- "Alan Seymour"
???? ??Heather Manning?-- "Millie Owens"
???? ??Tyler McCall?-- "Hal Carter"

Admission to the productions is $10 for the general public and $8 for Park faculty and staff. Non-Park students, children younger than 13 and senior citizens are $5, and Park students are free with their Park ID. Tickets can be reserved by calling (816) 584-6450 or purchased at the box office beginning one hour before performance time.

Please note: Alumni Hall (Jenkin and Barbara David Theater) has restricted physical access. Park University wants to make available to everyone access to all programs and activities conducted in this building. Requests for physical access accommodations should be addressed in a timely manner to Park University's director of public safety at (816) 584-6226. Park University will make all reasonable modifications to ensure that individuals with physical challenges have an equal opportunity to enjoy all programs and activities.
