WASHINGTON ? Ford is recalling 140,310 2012 Focuses to fix a defective windshield wiper motor, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"A seal in the wiring harness connector to the passenger side wiper motor may be missing," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "Water or other contaminants may accumulate in the connector, resulting in an intermittent or inoperative passenger side wiper motor, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash."
Ford said the problem only affects the passenger side motor. It said the affected vehicles were built from August 1, 2010 through October 18, 2011. Ford told its dealers to place a delivery hold on the 2012 Focus until the problem is fixed.
Ford dealers will clean and properly seal the passenger side wiper motor connector and replace any inoperative wiper motors. The recall is expected to begin on May 21. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
Inside Line says: Not exactly the most frightening recall, but still worth getting fixed if you own a 2012 Ford Focus.
