LONDON (AP) ? The Royal Shakespeare Company says it has appointed Gregory Doran as its new artistic director.
The company says Doran, who has directed many shows for the RSC over the past two decades, will take up the post in September.
Doran, who first joined the company as an actor in 1987, on Thursday pledged commitment to "the disciplines and craftsmanship required to do the astonishing plays of our 'Star of Poets,' William Shakespeare."
He replaces Michael Boyd, who has led the company since 2002.
The company recently unveiled a 100 million pound ($160 million) renovation of its theater complex in Stratford-upon-Avon, 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of London.
This summer it is producing the World Shakespeare Festival to coincide with the London Olympics.
